Pinecrest Housing will be developed in three phases. The first will focus on the senior population. Seniors (65 yrs +) are the fastest growing age group in Canada. [source: 2017 Government of Canada Report on Senior Housing] Prince Edward County’s population is aging at a rate faster than the Ontario average. [source: 2021 StatsCan] Senior housing is underserved in Prince Edward County. Affordable housing for seniors is in crisis in our community.

Pinecrest Housing will benefit the entire community of Prince Edward County by providing a Community Hub: a much-needed community centre, a gymnasium and stage for multi-use purposes, multi-purpose rooms for exercise, clubs and meetings, a large fully licensed kitchen with outdoor patio, an indoor rec-room with fireplace, library and games, that opens to an outdoor garden, community garden, 1 km outdoor walking trail affectionately named by the Community as “The Golden Mile”, with two thousand trees already planted.
Pinecrest Housing will implement exceptional performance standards with a significant potential to be low carbon and net-zero energy by installing solar panels onsite. These Co-Housing Units as well as the Community Hub will be an open facility to all regardless of racial or religious background.
As required by CMHC we have a joint venture with the developer, Springale Development and Pinecrest Housing. Springale offers guidance to Pinecrest with their 20 years experience in providing Affordable Housing. We have a construction timeline, and we will be built-ready in 2026.
Pinecrest Housing is a not-for profit and has received support from all three levels of government. Our Board of Directors is served by 5 highly trained and dedicated people, with a combination of certification, experience and academic

Develop Connections with Education Institutions for Construction and Support
Pinecrest Housing and Springale Development have already made strong connections with many community institutions, Loyalist College, the Prince Edward Learning Centre, local construction companies, and Canada Summer Jobs. For the past three years we have had successful Canada Summer Job contract employees working on property maintenance and construction preparation.

Application Policy and Procedures
It is the goal of Pinecrest Housing and Springale Development to establish a clear, accessible process for people to apply for a rental suite at Pinecrest Housing. We have already established a connection with Prince Edward Lennox and Addington Social Services Committee so that our process will be in line with the existing one in place withing the County. Springale Development, our developer, has over 15 years of managing rental units in a very successful manner and working with community agencies to provide many supports people need.
